Archery Range Information
The Archery range includes the bales located behind the clubhouse. the 3-D shooting targets are not included, you must be a member of Popodickon Bowman to use those targets. Follow all safety rules and regulations when practicing archery. An archer’s arrow can travel at velocities of up to 149 mph, making the sport potentially dangerous. Yet 2004 data from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System shows far less than one injury per 1,000 participants, making archery a safer sport than golfing or fishing, where nearly twice as many injuries occur, the NEISS report shows. Be sure to observed archery range safety rules reduce the risk of injury while shooting on a range. Please note: By using the Archery range, you consent to being filmed and actions may cause loss of privileges or membership.
Range Rules
- Membership cards must be publicly displayed at all times.
- Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a guardian.
- No firearms are allowed on the archery range.
- Alcohol, smoking, or other drugs are not allowed on the range.
- The following safety rules must be adhered to at all times:
- Never point an arrow at another person or shoot an arrow into the air.
- Do not nock an arrow until everyone is safely behind the firing line.
- Arrows should be pointed down the range toward the target at all times.
- Shoot an arrow only if you can see the target.
- If you can’t see the exact place where your arrow will hit, the possibility of hitting someone increases.
- The safest place at the archery range is behind the firing line. For this reason:
- Archers shall remain behind the firing line at all times while arrows are nocked.
- Range officer commands should be adhered to at all times.
- Designated officials will inform archers when it is safe to nock and fire.
- After the “clear” command, archers may retrieve their arrows.
- Archers must manually inspect their equipment before using the range. Please use the following guide:
- Check your bow and string for cracks or abrasions can help prevent injuries.
- If you are shooting wooden arrows, inspect them regularly for cracks.
- If you notice cracks in the wood, break the arrows so no other archer can use it.
- An archer who shoots a cracked arrow risks painful injury.
- Do not run at any time when retrieving or holding arrows.
- Stand beside, not in front, of the target when pulling arrows.
- Be careful to make sure there is appropriate distance and grip when pulling arrows to avoid injuries to other archers.
- If arrows are lost, only retrieve them after shooting is completed.
- No one is allowed past the backstop until shooting is finished.
- For 3-D shoots, the designated directions and officials must be followed. Going in reverse increases your likelihood of being struck by an arrow.
